Replace a damaged or unreliable control relay in a compatible laser machine with the Omron LY2N-J.

This general-purpose electrical relay uses a 24VDC coil to switch connected machine circuits on and off. It features two independent changeover contact sets, commonly known as a double-pole, double-throw or DPDT contact arrangement.

The plug-in design allows the relay to be installed into a compatible 8-pin socket, making future inspection and replacement easier without rewiring the entire component.

How the LY2N-J Relay Works

When 24VDC is applied to the relay coil, an internal electromagnetic switch changes the position of both contact sets.

Each contact set includes:

• One common terminal
• One normally closed terminal
• One normally open terminal

When the coil is not energized, the common terminals remain connected to the normally closed contacts. When the coil receives power, both contact sets switch to their normally open contacts.

This allows a lower-power control signal to operate separate electrical circuits within a compatible laser machine.

Built-In LED Indicator

The built-in LED provides a quick visual indication that the relay coil is receiving power.

For the 24VDC model, the operation indicator is green. This can be helpful during electrical troubleshooting because it allows the technician to see whether the machine’s control circuit is attempting to activate the relay.

The LED confirms that the coil is energized. It does not confirm that the relay contacts have successfully switched or that the connected component is operating correctly.

Understanding the Contact Rating

The relay’s 10A rating does not mean every electrical load can be switched at 10 amps.

The safe switching capacity depends on several factors, including:

• AC or DC voltage
• Resistive or inductive load
• Startup or inrush current
• Switching frequency
• Operating temperature
• Expected service life

Motors, fans, solenoids, transformers, and other inductive components may create a brief surge when activated. Confirm that the relay is properly rated for the connected component before installation.

Important Installation Information

Disconnect the laser machine from its electrical supply before inspecting or replacing internal electrical components. Turning off the machine through its control panel may not remove power from every circuit inside the electrical cabinet.

Relay replacement should be completed by someone familiar with electrical control systems. Incorrect wiring may damage the relay, connected components, machine controller, or power supply.

If a replacement relay fails again, chatters, overheats, or does not remain energized, troubleshoot the connected circuit rather than continuing to replace relays. The machine may have low control voltage, excessive current, loose wiring, a damaged socket, or a failing connected component.
