How the Relay Works

The LY2N-J uses an electromagnetic coil to switch two independent electrical circuits. When the specified AC voltage is applied to the coil, its internal mechanism changes the position of both contact sets.

Each contact set contains three connections:

• Common (COM): The shared terminal for the switching circuit.
• Normally Closed (NC): Connected to common when the relay coil is not energized.
• Normally Open (NO): Connected to common when the relay coil is energized.

When the coil receives the correct AC voltage, both contact sets change position. When coil power is removed, the contacts return to their normal positions.

The built-in LED indicates that the coil is energized, which can help technicians identify whether the machine's electrical control circuit is activating the relay.

Note: An illuminated LED does not guarantee that the relay contacts are operating correctly. Contact operation should be checked separately during troubleshooting.

Compatibility

This relay is intended for compatible CO2 laser machines and industrial electrical equipment requiring a 110/120VAC coil, DPDT switching arrangement, and matching 8-pin relay socket.

Suitable socket designs may include compatible PTF08A-series relay bases. Always verify the actual socket configuration and wiring before installing a replacement relay.

The 10A rated carry current does not mean every connected electrical device can be safely switched at 10 amps. Motors, solenoids, transformers, and other inductive equipment may require lower switching ratings due to startup current and other electrical characteristics.

Installation & Safety

• Disconnect the laser machine from electrical power before inspecting or replacing internal components.
• Verify that the control circuit supplies the correct AC coil voltage.
• Inspect the existing relay socket for corrosion, loose connections, overheating, or physical damage.
• Compare the replacement relay's terminal arrangement with the original component and socket wiring.
• Align the relay pins correctly before inserting the relay into the socket. Never force the connection.
• After installation, verify proper relay switching and operation of the connected electrical equipment.
• If a replacement relay fails repeatedly, overheats, or chatters, inspect the connected electrical circuit rather than continuing to replace relays.
