How a Magnetic Door Switch Works

A magnetic reed switch contains electrical contacts that respond to a nearby magnetic field. In a typical laser machine door-interlock arrangement, the switch is mounted to the machine cabinet and a compatible magnet is positioned on the moving door.

As the door opens or closes, the distance between the magnet and switch changes. This changes the switch's electrical state according to its contact configuration.

The machine's control or interlock circuit can use this signal to determine whether the door is in the required position for operation.

Important: Magnetic reed switches are available in normally open (NO), normally closed (NC), and other configurations. The required contact behavior must match the original machine wiring and control system.

A door switch alone does not provide a complete safety system. Proper interlock operation depends on the complete machine design, wiring, controller configuration, and associated protective components.

Installation & Safety
