Leadshine ND882 Bipolar Stepper Motor Driver
The Leadshine ND882 is a microstepping motor driver designed for compatible bipolar stepper motors used in CO2 laser engraving and cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other motion-control applications.
Operating on 24–90V DC, the ND882 provides adjustable motor current and pulse resolution to help maintain controlled, repeatable machine movement. Eight selectable current settings and sixteen pulse-resolution settings allow the driver to be configured for compatible motors and machine controllers.
The ND882 is a replacement option for systems using this specific driver model. Matching the electrical ratings, wiring connections, and switch configurations is important when replacing an existing stepper motor driver.
Key Features
- Adjustable Motor Current: Eight selectable current settings from 1.8A to 8.2A peak.
- RMS Current Ratings: Settings corresponding to 1.29A through 5.86A RMS.
- Microstepping Control: Sixteen selectable pulse resolutions for configuring motor positioning.
- 24–90V DC Input: Designed for compatible DC-powered stepper motor systems.
- Pulse and Direction Inputs: Accepts step and direction commands from a compatible machine controller.
- Enable Input: Provides a separate motor enable control connection.
- Selectable Standstill Current: Choose half or full holding current using DIP switch SW4.
- Eight DIP Switches: Provide direct access to motor-current and pulse-resolution settings.
- Front-Mounted Connection Labels: Clearly marked power, motor, and signal terminals help identify the wiring arrangement.

Motor Current Settings
The ND882 provides eight selectable motor-current settings using DIP switches SW1 through SW3. The table below reflects the peak and RMS current values printed on the driver.
| Peak | RMS | SW1 | SW2 | SW3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.8A | 1.29A | OFF | OFF | OFF |
| 2.7A | 1.93A | ON | OFF | OFF |
| 3.6A | 2.57A | OFF | ON | OFF |
| 4.6A | 3.29A | ON | ON | OFF |
| 5.5A | 3.93A | OFF | OFF | ON |
| 6.4A | 4.57A | ON | OFF | ON |
| 7.3A | 5.21A | OFF | ON | ON |
| 8.2A | 5.86A | ON | ON | ON |
Standstill Current (SW4): OFF selects half current; ON selects full current.
Always select a current appropriate for the connected motor. Incorrect current settings may cause weak movement, missed steps, or excessive motor heating.
Microstepping Configuration
DIP switches SW5 through SW8 select the number of controller pulses required for one motor revolution.
The sixteen available settings are 400, 500, 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 1,600, 2,000, 2,400, 3,200, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, 6,400, 8,000, and 10,000 pulses per revolution.
Use the pulse-resolution chart printed on the driver to select the appropriate DIP switch positions. Changing the resolution without updating the machine controller may result in incorrect axis travel or positioning.
Compatibility
The Leadshine ND882 is intended for compatible bipolar stepper motor systems used in laser engraving and cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other motion-control applications.
Before ordering, compare your existing driver's model number, operating voltage, motor-current requirements, control terminals, motor connections, mounting dimensions, and DIP switch configurations.
Important: The ND882 should not be assumed interchangeable with other 882-series drivers. Similar model numbers and physical appearances do not guarantee identical electrical ratings, wiring requirements, or microstepping settings.
Installation & Setup
- Disconnect the machine from electrical power and allow stored energy to discharge before servicing.
- Photograph and label all existing driver connections before removal.
- Record the original DIP switch positions and motor-current settings.
- Verify DC input polarity and the correct A and B motor phase connections.
- Match the pulse, direction, and enable connections to the machine controller.
- Set motor current and pulse resolution according to the connected motor and controller.
- Provide adequate ventilation around the driver's heatsink.
- Never connect or disconnect motor wiring while the driver is powered.
- Test axis movement at reduced speed before returning the machine to normal operation.
Troubleshooting
Common symptoms of stepper driver or motion-control problems include an axis that fails to move, motor vibration without rotation, missed steps, inconsistent travel distances, excessive heating, or an illuminated alarm indicator.
These symptoms do not always indicate a failed driver. Incorrect DIP switch settings, damaged motor cables, loose wiring, power-supply problems, motor faults, and mechanical binding can cause similar issues.
