Leadshine M860 Bipolar Stepper Motor Driver
The Leadshine M860 is a high-performance microstepping driver designed for compatible CO2 laser engraving and cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other motor-driven systems requiring dependable axis movement.
Operating on 24–80V DC, the M860 controls compatible bipolar stepper motors through pulse and direction signals from a machine controller. Eight adjustable motor-current settings and sixteen selectable microstepping resolutions allow the driver to be configured for smooth, repeatable positioning.
The M860 features sinusoidal current control and self-adjusting current-control parameters to help reduce motor vibration, operating noise, and excessive heating when properly configured.
Key Features
- Adjustable Motor Current: Eight selectable settings ranging from 2.00A to 6.00A reference current, corresponding to 2.40A to 7.20A peak current.
- Microstepping Control: Sixteen selectable resolutions ranging from 400 to 51,200 pulses per revolution.
- 24–80V DC Input: Compatible with appropriately rated DC power supplies.
- Sinusoidal Current Control: Helps provide smooth motor operation with reduced vibration and noise.
- Self-Adjusting Current Control: Adjusts internal current-control parameters to accommodate connected motors.
- Multiple Control Modes: Supports Pulse/Direction and CW/CCW operation.
- Optically Isolated Inputs: Helps reduce electrical interference affecting motion-control signals.
- Selectable Standstill Current: Half-current or full-current operation when the motor is stopped.
- Built-In Protection: Includes overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and short-circuit protection.
- Integrated Heatsink: Supports heat dissipation during operation.

Motor Current & DIP Switch Settings
DIP switches SW1 through SW3 select the motor operating current. The driver provides eight settings, each with a reference-current and peak-current value.
| Reference | Peak | SW1 | SW2 | SW3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.00A | 2.40A | ON | ON | ON |
| 2.57A | 3.08A | OFF | ON | ON |
| 3.14A | 3.77A | ON | OFF | ON |
| 3.71A | 4.45A | OFF | OFF | ON |
| 4.28A | 5.14A | ON | ON | OFF |
| 4.86A | 5.83A | OFF | ON | OFF |
| 5.43A | 6.52A | ON | OFF | OFF |
| 6.00A | 7.20A | OFF | OFF | OFF |
SW4: OFF selects half standstill current; ON selects full standstill current. Select the current according to your motor's electrical requirements.
Microstepping Configuration
DIP switches SW5 through SW8 select the pulse resolution. The M860 offers sixteen settings ranging from 400 to 51,200 pulses per revolution for a standard 1.8-degree stepper motor.
Available settings include 400, 800, 1,600, 3,200, 6,400, 12,800, 25,600, 51,200, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, 5,000, 8,000, 10,000, 20,000, and 40,000 pulses per revolution.
Use the configuration chart printed on the driver to select the correct DIP switch positions. Incorrect resolution settings may result in inaccurate axis travel or positioning.
Compatibility
The Leadshine M860 is intended for compatible bipolar stepper motor systems used in CO2 laser engraving and cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other industrial motion-control applications.
Before ordering, verify the original driver's model, input voltage, motor-current ratings, control-signal connections, DIP switch settings, and physical mounting dimensions.
Important: Not all stepper motor drivers are interchangeable. Drivers with similar model numbers or housings may have different electrical requirements and control configurations.
Installation & Setup
- Disconnect machine power and allow stored electrical energy to discharge before servicing.
- Photograph the original wiring and DIP switch positions before removing the existing driver.
- Verify DC power polarity and motor phase connections before applying power.
- Configure motor current and microstepping resolution to match the connected motor and machine controller.
- Secure the driver with adequate ventilation around its heatsink.
- Never connect or disconnect motor wiring while the driver is powered.
- Test axis movement at reduced speed before returning to normal operation.
Troubleshooting
Common symptoms of stepper motor control problems include an axis that fails to move, motor vibration without rotation, missed steps, inconsistent positioning, excessive motor heating, or an illuminated driver alarm.
These symptoms do not always indicate a failed driver. Incorrect wiring, improper settings, power-supply issues, mechanical binding, or motor faults may produce similar problems.
