CWLS Water Level Float Switch – 2-Wire Chiller Sensor
The CWLS Water Level Sensor is a float-operated switch designed to detect water-level conditions in compatible laser water chiller reservoirs. As the water level changes, the hinged float moves and actuates an internal electrical switch.
This allows a properly configured chiller monitoring system to detect a water-level condition and respond according to its control circuitry. Water-level monitoring can be an important part of protecting water-cooled CO2 laser equipment from insufficient coolant.
The sensor features a compact black housing, hinged float arm, threaded mounting body with retaining nut, and two attached electrical wires.
Important: This component must match the original sensor's electrical switching behavior, mounting dimensions, and installation orientation. It is not a universal replacement for every CW-series chiller.
Key Features
- Float-Operated Level Detection: Uses a hinged float to respond to changes in reservoir water level.
- Two-Wire Connection: Includes two attached electrical leads for connection to a compatible monitoring circuit.
- Mechanical Float Arm: Moves with the water level to actuate the sensor's switching mechanism.
- Threaded Mounting Body: Features a retaining nut for installation through a compatible reservoir opening.
- Water-Level Monitoring: Can provide a switching signal to compatible chiller monitoring and protection circuitry.
- Replacement Application: Suitable for replacing a matching water-level float switch in a compatible cooling system.

Specification Note: Electrical contact ratings, normally open/normally closed behavior, wire length, and exact mounting dimensions require verification against the physical component.
How the Water Level Switch Works
The hinged float responds to changes in the water level inside a reservoir. As the float moves between its raised and lowered positions, it actuates an internal switch.
A compatible chiller control system can use that change in contact state to identify a water-level condition and operate its monitoring or protection functions.
This sensor does not measure the precise depth or volume of water. It provides a switching indication based on the position of the float.
Chiller Compatibility
This sensor is intended for selected CW-series laser water chiller applications using a matching float-operated water-level switch.
Before ordering, compare the replacement sensor with your existing component, including:
- Existing sensor design and float orientation
- Threaded mounting dimensions
- Float arm length and available movement clearance
- Electrical contact behavior in raised and lowered positions
- Required electrical ratings
- Wire length and connection method
- Chiller model and reservoir configuration
Important: Different chiller models and revisions may use different water-level sensors. A similar appearance or two-wire connection does not guarantee compatibility.
Installation & Safety
- Disconnect the chiller and laser machine from electrical power before servicing.
- Drain or lower the reservoir water level as required before removing the existing sensor.
- Confirm the replacement sensor's mounting dimensions and electrical switching behavior.
- Install the sensor in the correct orientation, allowing the float to move freely without contacting reservoir walls or internal components.
- Secure the mounting body using compatible hardware and appropriate sealing methods.
- Connect the electrical wires according to the chiller manufacturer's verified wiring diagram.
- Refill the reservoir and check the sensor mounting area for leaks.
- Verify correct sensor operation and any associated low-water protection functions before returning the equipment to service.
Safety Note: Never bypass or disable a water-level protection circuit. Inadequate coolant can contribute to overheating and damage to water-cooled CO2 laser equipment.
