3M-15-1100-C Open-Ended Timing Belt – 1,100 mm × 15 mm
The 3M-15-1100-C Timing Belt is an open-ended synchronous drive belt designed for compatible laser engraving and cutting machine motion systems. Measuring 1,100 mm in length and 15 mm in width, it features a 3 mm tooth pitch for engagement with matching timing pulleys in precision motion applications.
Manufactured from neoprene rubber with fiberglass reinforcement, this belt combines flexibility with internal tensile support to help resist stretching during operation. Its open-ended construction makes it suitable for linear motion assemblies where the belt ends are secured to a moving component. It is a practical replacement for compatible laser gantry drive systems and other belt-driven positioning equipment.

How the 3M Timing Belt Works
Timing belts transfer mechanical movement through evenly spaced teeth that engage matching pulley grooves. This positive engagement allows a drive motor to move connected components in a controlled manner without relying solely on friction between the belt and pulley.
In a compatible laser machine linear motion system, the belt passes around timing pulleys while its ends are secured to the moving assembly. As the motor rotates the drive pulley, the belt moves the connected component along its intended travel path.
The neoprene rubber body allows the belt to flex around pulleys, while the fiberglass reinforcement helps limit stretching under normal operating loads. Proper tooth engagement, belt tension, and pulley alignment contribute to accurate positioning and consistent movement.
Open-Ended vs. Closed-Loop Timing Belts
Open-ended timing belts are supplied as straight lengths with two separate ends. They are commonly used in linear motion applications where each end is secured to a moving carriage or other machine component.
Closed-loop timing belts form a continuous loop and are commonly used to transmit motion between pulleys in rotary drive assemblies. Their pitch length and total tooth count determine the belt's continuous circumference.
The 3M-15-1100-C is an open-ended belt measuring 1,100 mm long. It is intended for compatible open-belt drive arrangements and should not be substituted for a continuous timing belt without an appropriately designed drive configuration.
Confirm Compatibility Before Ordering
Not every timing belt is interchangeable. Before purchasing a replacement, compare the following specifications with your existing belt and motion system:
- Original belt designation and tooth profile
- Required belt length and available travel
- 3 mm tooth pitch and matching pulley geometry
- 15 mm belt width and pulley clearance
- Open-ended belt configuration and end mounting method
- Belt tension and drive assembly requirements
Matching the tooth pitch alone does not guarantee compatibility. Belt tooth geometry, width, length, and mounting arrangement must also match the machine. MXL and 3M belts use different tooth pitches and profiles and are not interchangeable.
Installation & Safety
Before replacing a timing belt, turn off the laser machine and disconnect power according to the manufacturer's service instructions. Release existing belt tension and inspect the pulleys, idlers, and belt attachment points for wear, damage, or debris.
Route the replacement belt through the correct pulley path and secure both ends using the machine's designated belt mounting method. Ensure the teeth are properly engaged and adjust tension according to the equipment manufacturer's specifications. Avoid twisting, pinching, or overtightening the belt. Check for smooth, unobstructed movement before returning the machine to operation.
