    Modifications for using a 100mm Focal lens through a 55mm nozzle
The 55mm lens is the standard for the laser engraving machines of 60 watts and less. It is normal that the higher wattage lasers are used for cutting more than used for engraving. The smaller laser machine can get improved cutting performance by using a 100mm focal lens. Why do you need a 100mm focal lens? The 100mm focal lens acts like a sharper knife. This is especially important when trying to cut deeper into materials. The 55mm focal lens is fine when cutting under 3/8 hard materials. When cutting 1.5 inch styrofoam, the laser does not stay focused enough to provide a deep, narrow kerf. The styrofoam will melt away with a small kerf at the top and 1/2 inch kerf on the bottom. This is important for more than just styrofoam. You should see improved cutting with the 3/8 and 1/2 inch cuts through wood also.
